In The Plains, a small town in southeastern Ohio, life has a tendency to overwhelm families struggling with a dormant economy and rampant drug use. But they persevere. Brittany, Scott, Dexter, Aaron, Jill, Linda and the rest of their extended and improvised family refuse to give up. They raise their families as they struggle against racial prejudice, anti-gay bias, joblessness, and marginalization. They strive for stability in a region of our country where it’s too easy to be left behind.
